  • Searching Jira for Existing OSP Issues

  Step-by-step instructions on searching for existing OSP issues are provided below (vendor documentation  Search for Issues is available at the Atlassian Jira web site):

  1. Log in to Sakai Jira.
  2. Using the horizontal menu across the top of the page, click Issues -> Search for Issues.
  3. A search panel appears on the left, with the New tab selected, which indicates that this is a new search.
  4. If you want to find a particular word or phrase in the the Summary, Description, Comments, and/or Environment fields, enter your search expression into the Query box and select the fields you want to search  Summary and Description are checked by default.
  5. For the Project field, select Sakai CLE to restrict the search to tickets related to the Sakai CLE tools.
  6. Select the Issue Type.  If you are searching for bug reports, set to Bug.
  7. Each project in Jira can be set up to include specific components and custom fields.  When you select a specific project, an information box (similar to the screenshot below) will appear.  Click the link in the box to expose the custom fields for the Sakai CLE project.
  8. Use the menus and text fields down the left side of the page to select your search criteria.  The fields you include in your query will depend on what you are looking for, but the following are especially helpful for locating specific bugs:
    • Components: use this to specify the tool affected by the issue you are looking for.  All of the OSP tools begin with "OSP:" (e.g., OSP: Portfolio Templates), so typing the letter "O" will get you close to where they begin in the list.
    • Text Search: summary and description; environment can be useful when looking for a bug that only occurs in a specific browser or OS version.
    • Affects version: the version(s) of the software against which the big was reported.
    • Dates and Times: for narrowing the search to more recent releases or activity.
  9. When are finished selecting your search criteria, click Search at the top or bottom of the screen to execute the query and view the results. Scan the summary descriptions in the results  (if the search results are too numerous, you may need to narrow your search). To read the details for an issue, click the summary description. When finished, click Return to Search at the upper right to return to the list of issues that matched your search.
  10. If you are able to find the bug you encountered in Jira, check the Status and Resolution settings.  If the status is Open, no changes are necessary unless you have more information to add.  If so, add a comment with the additional information. If the status=Closed, Resolution=Fixed, and the version you tested is the same as or later than the Fix version, it may be appropriate to re-open the issue.
