1. Requirements Gathering Process

  • Follow-up from the Boston conference.
  • Need to find a new term.
  • Process restarted back in January.
  • Opportunity to revive this initiative.
  • Need input from community to help define new features, fix current tools.
  • Ranking of priorities.
  • Need more direct user feedback.
  • Functional visioning, independent from what is currently possible in Sakai (Pie-in-the-sky).
    • 3 categories:
      • Functional Visions
      • Use Cases
      • Requirements
    • Local initiatives that are gathered in some sort of community system.
      • Get feedback from innovators as well as laggards.
      • "I would like Sakai to be able to..." or "I want to be able to do this, in general"
      • "What Sakai should not do..."
      • Most institutions have a local group to start with.
  • OSP has been very active.
    • We should probably look at their process.
    • There is enough overlap to make the two initiative work together.
    • OSP is more focused on programs, less on courses, but there could be ways to merge these together.
      • Would gather feedback from Deans, higher level executives.
  • Sue: Portability, transferability, is a hot topic on campus.
  • We could start by describing action words.
    • Kate: This group should go beyond the classroom.

  • Delaware has a LMS Committee.
  • Indiana has the whole she-bang.
    • Maggi: Input comes from a few squeaky wheels.
      • Need a broader vision.
  • Focus groups.
    • Josh has used a web-based focus group (Kim Thanos).
    • Have faculty (cross-institution) brainstorm around a topic?
  • Brian: Could we start with Michigan's multi-institution survey?

2. OSP call next week to follow-up

  • Next Monday at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
  • Josh will follow-up by the end of the week.

3. Different time for call?

  • To let everyone participate (from South Africa to US West Coast)
  • Repurpose this call? Tell Josh if you agree/disagree.
