We need to have a Denver-based Sakai logo to use for the 2010 conference materials (including polo shirts and caps!)

This page will be used to collect ideas. Please leave your suggestions (including attaching images) for consideration. The Program Committee will pick the winner. Deadline is March 15, 2010.  If you want you can also email your suggestions to

The Program Committee during it's meeting on March 30, 2010 selected the "Blue Bear on white" logo to be the 2010 Sakai Conference logo:
The Blue Bear is a unique public artwork associated with Denver. For more information on this Denver landmark see: Denver Public Art Program web page.

Here are the 7 entries to vote on for 2010: Only program committee members can vote. (Note: we can expect the final logo choice to get a bit of

tweaking to accommodate web, print, and embroidery applications)

#1 (bike)         #2 (blue Mt.)       #3 (gray Mt.)      #4 (license plate)

#5 (gold Mt.)    #6 (shovel)       #7 (blue bear)

Some suggestions so far are:

  • Major Sport Teams: Broncos, Nuggets, Avalanche, Rockies
  • Mining, Gold Rush
  • Cold, Snow, High Altitude
  • Outdoor life, Wildlife

Prior Denver Conference logo (2004)

Mary Miles said, "Attached is the logo used for the first Sakai conference in Denver.  Just thought you might like to see what was used.  As you can see, the theme (or tagline) was Rocky Mountain Sakai so something like the tagline suggested -- High on Sakai -- would supply a variation."

  1. Last year we collected previous conferece logos. Are those posted somewhere?  Found 'em. Attached 'em.

  2. Tossing  a couple into the ring to get things started...

  3. Here's a riff on the classic Colorado license plate.  (Would this be legal?)

  4. Here is an idea I came up with.

    1. I like it! And the license plate, too.

  5. Here is another take at it:

    1. I love both of them Michael....

    2. Hi Mike,

      This image looks great!

As for the text a different font and style that represents something about Colorado would be sweet!

  6. I really like that last one, but wonder how it would look without the drop shadows. I'm not sure we can reproduce the translucent shadows on embroidered shirts, caps, etc.

    1. Yeah, I was wondering the same thing too.  I can remove the drop shadows and see what I can do with it from there.

      1. I took out the drop shadow and made a few other adjustments.  I added a blur to the mountains but I am assuming that can't be reproduced on clothing & apparel as well, so I included one without the blur.

And here is the original without the drop shadow.

  7. I hope it's not too late, but we have a logo that we would like to submit.  It is designed by one of our student workers (Carly Hensley).  It is based on the Pike's Peak gold rush.

    1. No, it's not too late. The Conference Program Committee has  a meeting tomorrow (3/16) where we will review the logo suggestions.

      Thanks for submitting your idea.

  8. I like the mining theme.  And Pike's Peak is down there to the south, like the Tech Center.

  9. (Pieter, this is from Kerry)! bear with revisions!

  10. (for Pieter, from Kerry – the following 3 files show each revised version of the logo on different color backgrounds)
