Slow and Steady Wins the Race:  Moving from Commercial to Open Source

Presnted by:  Ryan Allen, Senior E-Learning Specialist at the University of Dayton.

WebCT was both a well saturated and well 'tolerated' program at UD.   It did the trick but no one was particularly excited about using it.  It wasn't new and fresh and it wasn't making learning fun.  The idea of Open Source software was met with a lot of skepticism and doubt when the conversation to migrate systems first began.  Once the decision was made, it was through careful and detailed processes that the roll-out garnered great success.  The campus faculty became inspired and intrigued when they saw the potential and power Sakai could bring.

The presentation will focus on:  Vetting the tools, Merging UD's Identity with Sakai, Training Approach, Marketing and Branding, Making Data Driven Decisions through Surveys, Development and customization.
