Some initial development, planning and coordination documentation can be found at http://groups.google.com/group/3akai. (Anyone is free to join this Google group and participate. It must, however, be said that the focus of implementers right now is an initial release candidate of 3.0 for June of '09 to address the needs of early adopters.)

• Sakai 3 Content Authoring Prototype - A demonstration of the vision for content authoring in Sakai 3, using the functionality of the 3akai Milestone 1 release as an example.

• There is a demo server on which you can try out some of the functionality that is intended for Sakai 3 yourself, such as early, prototype work on content authoring, social networking, internal messaging, instant messaging, an improved user experience, etc. (Note: that this is only a demo server, and represents a work in progress. Expect the functionality, capabilities, and user experience to evolve significantly as work on Sakai 3 progresses. As such the server is reloaded from time to time and data stored on it will not persist.)

Building Sakai 3

In the context of the proposed Sakai Community Development Process there are several efforts already underway, which are likely to play significant roles in Sakai 3:

• Kernel 2 - An evolutionary re-thinking of the underlying framework for Sakai.
• 3akai - A reconsideration of the metaphors on which the Sakai User Experience (UX) is based, as well as a modernization of the user interfaces to take leverage evolving web capabilities. Based in part on work from the UX Improvement Project.
• Creating and Managing User Groups - Kirk and Oliver's proposal
• Sakai 3 and Library Integration - Discussions about library-related functionality for Sakai 3.
• Assessment
• Portfolio
