Notes
Michael K spoke on the UX Initiative. Other agenda items pushed to next week
A question that was put to Michael regarded whether the six month timeframe is long enough. He indicated that he was reluctant to dedicate money for a longer period given all the other community needs. His hope is that the position will become permanent, if not full time and the six months could be seen as a trial period towards this. He particularly didn't want to hire someone only to not be able to continue the position dur to lack of finance.
The aims for the position:
- Designs and not necessarily full implementation
- Progression towards a plan
- Establishing credibility and authority within the community.
- Looking at things that Fluid might not change as we cant expect Fluid to do everything!
- Setting the groundwork for a phase 2, which would be a longer, larger continued effort
There is a possibility that the position will be able to have resources 'given' to the central control to enable the position to complete big picture items like complete redesigns.
Michael is polling people and institutions who have put up resources or expressed interest in terms of commitments to the project or its predecessor.
The position will not necessarily be filled from inside the community, although it is likely to have the greatest attraction there.
The position could be filled by a coder or designer equally.
The selection process will include Michael plus one more Foundation staffer as well as two other people from within the community. These people will review submitted resumes then ask each applicant to look at a part of Sakai to define problems that they see.
Michael suggested that we invite him in two-three weeks and he would update us on the Initiatives progress.
