There was a problem connecting to the normal conference number and so the meeting was set up on the Sakai bridge number at very short notice. A number of people (Kathy, Will, etc) tried to get into the usual number and couldnt. The meeting was somewhat shortened by the time this was all sorted out.
The meeting started with Daphne talking about Stephen Marquard's suggestion for a page to list possible new design patterns. Marc offered to create this apge so that the community can have more involvement in the patterns that are chosen to add to the library.
Marc noted that due to local workload he will not have a great deal of time for the group for the next few months at least. Tim offered to take over as the "Chief Herder" for the group during this time, and offered to facilitate the meetings, leaving only the note taking to be done by rotation.
Stanford are going live with 2.4 in September, and Berkeley are going live in August, consuming a lot of Marc and Daphne's time.
Tim went through the meetings of the last meeting for those who weren't there. Thoughts on this were that the U-Camp was generally positive, but we need to think carefully about the U-Camp target audience - we cant be all things to all people and we need to also manage expectations better before the U-Camp as to our intended audience.
We also need to consider the publicity for the groups efforts - at the moment this seems to be lacking, with the community as a whole not aware of the work that is being done.
It was agreed that thee Design Exercise was one of the best bits of the U-Camp but was probably not long enough. A longer timeframe would enable real actions and steps forward to be drafted.
It was noted that for future exercises, the person in charge of the area under scrutiny should be present to give explanations and get action items.
To help address the perception and audience questions, it was suggested that before the next conference a set of recommended readings should be publicised so that the participants would be at a more uniform level. These readings would not be mandatory as preparation for the Programmers Cafe, but just some way of bringing up the median skills.
Talk then moved on to the Synthesis document - Daphne mentioned that it is almost finished and that she would have it completed by the 17th. Once this document is finished, the group needs to decide what are the next steps for it - the suggestion was that they should probably be in Jira, attached to existing Jira tickets but specifically to include possible solutions wherer they exist so that we are feeding positively into the community rather than just complaining.
The next weeks meeting should discusss directions for the group for the immediate future.
