Agenda
ToDo's and notes from last week
- Tim sent out message reminding community to sign up; we have 11 people currently
- Daphne is still working on Jonathan Howarth's (VT) study; she's aiming to have it ready in two weeks
- Tim will do the site re-org next week
- Marc will update the evaluation matrix with his evaluations as time permits
- Kathy is working on her evaluation synthesis.
- Judy would like to pick up on any missing ones. She'll look at the Oncourse and the Michigan evaluations and pick one of those to synthesiuze
New stuff
- any patterns to review
- U-Camp planning
- Can we get the synthesis done in time for the conference? Or can we get enough done that a card sorting activity would be useful?
Notes
Design Patterns
- FLUID team will have accessibility sections finished within the next few weeks; finished editing current patterns, will start adding to new ones shortly
U-Camp
- Daphne suggested that if the synthesis matrix is finished, we might be able to do some prioritization exercises at the U-Camp
- eg. plotting priorities on frequency, severity of issue, etc.
- framework for thinking about importance of usability issues
- Daphne offered to lead this prioritization exercise at the U-Camp
- Given how useful it will be in U-Camp activities, let's work to get the matrix done by the end of May
- Daphne asked what the goals of the U-Camp are?
- Tim: U-Camp is an opportunity to share with attendees practical techniques for doing usability and UX work within Sakai
- Daphne: take advantage of face-to-face time to get some big-picture work done
- eg. prioritization activities
- another idea is to work together to define how to do a heuristic review: figure out what the primary use cases & scenarios are for the tool (need to choose a tool in advance)
- Colin asked: how do we make sure people feel like the U-Camp was helpful and worthwhile?
- Daphne suggested if we do a prioritization exercise, we should feed the results right back into the requirements process
- systematic approaches help to provide useful information to the community
- We're still deciding if a mix of talks and collaborative workshops are most effective
- Daphne suggested perhaps some teaching activities would be more useful than talks
- Also perhaps talk about some low-cost UX activities
Synthesis Matrix
- Benefits of the synthesis matrix:
- easier to compare and analyze the data
- there's lots of good information; the intent of the synthesis is to make it easier to find usability information in Sakai
- helps us prioritize
In attendance: Daphne, Colin, Tim; Members of the FLUID team: Michelle D'Souza, Anastasia Cheetham, Joseph Scheuhammer
Note taker/facilitator rotation: Colin, Daphne, Judy, Kathy, Kristol, Marc, Tim
