UI Camp Meeting

Attendees:  Judy, Kathy, Marc, Daphne

Review Action Items from last week

  • Reminder for folks  to read the Mark Notess Case Study
  • Need to check with Mara about sending the email to support & pedogogy groups
  • Need to check with Colin about status on setting up VTC or ichat capabilities during the camp
    Further Define Activities
  • If we come up with a list of the top priority UI issues we should take them to someone (who would that be...the board?) in Sakai to ask when we can get some of these things worked on.
    • Someone asked: "What about requirements?  Are these issues already logged there?"  Those are mostly functional requirements.  It would be helpful to think about usability issues based on user testing and other usability issues.
  • Does it make sense to make the goal of the day to come up with the highest priority UI/usability issues?
    • We need more than this.  Concern stressed about coming up with another list of issues.  It would be good to have some solutions to start discussing with the dev team.   Because of the technical workshop happening at the same time, it doesn't seem likely to do a combo for part of the day.  We should confirm this.
  • We had been talking about getting to solutions but is a day really enough?  We could come up with the high priority issues.  Kathy mentioned that solutions should be negotiated.  It's key to work with developers in working out these solutions.  Can we come up with solution suggestions by the end of the day?  As we discussed before, maybe we can find time later in the week to review with developers.  We'll need to reserve a BOF room or something of the sort and identify and invite developers.
  • Prioritization Session
    • We should ask people for their 5 or 10 top issues?
    • We want to get the issues before hand so we can find overlaps, etc.

Other potential goals for the day:

  • How can we build an active user group?  Hearing from users...potentially over and over...gives people motivation to make changes.  It's not so much that this information tells exactly what to fix but more it gets attention pointed toward the UI in general.
  • Key contribution could be how do you process user support information along with other types of user information you may be capturing.  Can the Sakai community better share this kind of information?

Post meeting:  Judy & Daphne agreed to put together a very loose agenda for the day to give this group something to work with.
