Goals and Timelines for Sakaibrary Subject Research Guides Prototype

Goals and Timelines for Sakaibrary Subject Research Guides

Goals

In order of priority:

  1. Develop a working prototype for Subject Research Guide authoring and delivery that can be used to demonstrate the functionality of the SRG to potential funders. While built as a Sakai tool using the RSF application framework, the most important thing is to have a workable interface rather than to implement based on the final desired architecture.
  2. In parallel with the work towards goal 1, develop a basic architectural framework for full implementation of Subject Research Guides, to be implemented with additional funding.
  3. Identify, contact, and track work of other efforts within Sakai that have common needs (for example, common needs for dynamic forms-based data entry capabilities across Sakaibrary and OSP), for future cooperation given additional funding.

Timeline

January 17: Basic UI designs in XHTML are complete. Technical design and implementation begins.

February 29: Initial version of authoring interface prototype that people can interact with is complete; has basic editing framework, possibly a few simple data types.

March 1-14: Basic functional testing, QA, etc. Feedback compiled and priorities established for further development.

May 16: Second development iteration complete, including support for more data types.

May 17 - June 30: Testing, QA, and documenting work.
