What we need to define

Implemention of the O.K.I. Repository OSID for metasearch engines

• Repository OSID implementations for MetaLib and SingleSearch
  • Asset Types, RecordStructures and PartStructures for our needs
• Separation between the "Magic Library Server" and Sakai
  • A metadata standard for communications over SRU+CQL HTTP transactions (i.e. how should citation results be packaged when coming into Sakai from the library?)
• Should we support multiple different metadata standards? Which ones?
• Authentication and authorization issues between an institution, Sakai, the Repository OSID implementation and the metasearch engine
  • it's been recommended by Jeff Kahn that we take a look at Tufts' VUE application code to better understand authn/authz issues (and a number of other similar issues common between VUE and Sakaibrary)

Metadata standards

• The metadata standards that OSID implementations support (MARC, MODS, Dublin Core, proprietary, etc.)
  • i.e. getting Assets in Dublin Core, MARC-XML, etc.
• The import/export standards that are supported to exchange with external citation manangers such as RefWorks, ProCite, etc.
• Could we leverage a crosswalks repository?

Citations, CitationLists and Citation-services within Sakai

• how Citations are represented within Sakai
  • metadata fields
  • Citation methods (what can a Citation do, what can be done to a Citation)
• how Citations are stored (RDF storage)
• Citation export/import services to exchange with external citation managers such as RefWorks, ProCite, etc.

A system to access fulltext of citations using OpenURLs

• a minimal set of metadata fields that are required to build a functional OpenURL
  • the standard for the OpenURL (SAP1, SAP2, Dublin Core)
• a set of guidelines for institutions describing "best practices" for configuring OpenURL link resolvers to maximize efficiency of the Sakaibrary system and their OpenURL link resolver in general

What's the request-response system for communicating between Sakai and the MLS?

• Possibility: metalib model
• Issues:
  • Authentication
  • Session and set IDs
  • How to do pagination/cursors

Levels of OpenURL usage

• Do we get enough data out of WebBridge to create OpenURLs?
• If not, do we fall back to vendor-specific URLs and a proxy-server setting?
