General information
The Leidse Onderwijsinstellingen (LOI) offers over 400 courses, ranging from short vocational courses to complete bachelor-master courses. Roughly 100.000 students are enrolled in one of these courses. With 20.000 students and over 45 courses, LOI Hogeschool (Higher Professional Education) has grown in the last decade into one of the largest universities in the Netherlands. LOI has specialised in offering distant learning: students take courses independent of time, location and pace. Thereby they are guided by instructors with extensive practical experience. The LOI stands for quality which is achieved through signaling educational needs and the deployment of new tools. LOI Hogeschool is first in the Netherlands with a NVAO accreditation for all schools.
LOI and Sakai
LOI currently uses Sakai mainly for its portfolio (OSP) functionality. Other activities and contributions include:
- Dutch translation of Sakai.
- Tool for translation progress statistics: l10n status tool
- Integrated homegrown student information system for Sakai authorization (using IMS Enterprise Services SDK)
- Looking into resources/repository integration with Stellent Content Management System
