This mechanism uses the Provider Interfaces available in the legacy (Sakai 1.5, 2.0) and in the Sakai Application Framework (Sakai 2.1) modules. Sakai uses these interfaces to poll data from an external source on a periodic basis in order to populate Sakai's internal database.
An initial implementation of a Provider Interface using the IMS Enterprise Specification. The IMSEnt Provider will provision Sakai with user and group information.
Pros for Selecting as a Priority
- This is a straightforward mechanism for integration with enterprise data.
- Many institutions have already interfaced with similar mechanisms to integrate LMSes and other software.
- This approach requires the least Sakai-specific know-how in order to get up and running. It can be a good interim method even if the eventual goal is live polling of some other source.
