Supporters of this priority are interested in exposing Sakai worksites, tools and/or administrative tools through existing portal products. Integration with uPortal has been expressed as a goal of the board since the inception of the Sakai project. Other portal software may be in use at different universities. The behavior of Sakai within a portal environment, including use cases and wireframes, should be developed. Further, development of standards-based integration techniques (WSRP, JSR-168) should be part of the core mission.

This looked great. At the time all that was missing was the context for tool, so you could only get the tools default instance rather than e.g. the discussion board for English 101.
There was discussion of a specific portal DG but I've not seen this happen yet.
