Gateway Content

The site users first see when they visit Sakai, before they login is referred to as the "Gateway." While Sakai ships with a default Gateway layout containing information about the project and product, Sakai also allows you to customize the Gateway site to meet the needs of your institution.

Changing the Message of the Day (MOTD)

The !gateway-110 page contains the Message of the Day content. An administrative tool is provided in the Administration Workspace.

Customizing the Gateway site.

Since the "Gateway" site is a standard Sakai site, you have great freedom to customize and modify what gets displayed and how it's organized. Common customizations include: service information, contact info, promotional material, help content (especially about account creation and password recovery) or other content.

  1. Log in as an administrative user.
  2. Go to Administration Workspace
  3. Access the Sites tool.
  4. Search for the !gateway site (enter !gateway in the "Site ID" search field in the top search menu).
  5. Select the !gateway site
  6. Scroll down the page and click the "Pages" button. (The pages contain the tools that appear on the Gateway page, and appear in the left-nav).

  8. Click the Tools button (see GatewayTools2 attached image).

    2. !gateway-110 is the MOTD but this can be changes using the MOTD administrative tool.
